Ireland visa decisions 2026: Dublin publishes every Tuesday including Pakistan applications, Abu Dhabi every Friday, New Delhi daily

Ireland Visa Decisions (2026): How to Check Your Result, Office by Office

Last updated: 30 October 2026 | Checked against Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) and the visa pages of the Irish embassies in the UAE, India, Türkiye and Nigeria.

Once your Irish visa application is in, the waiting starts. Ireland does not send most applicants a tracking update. Instead, each visa office publishes a list of application numbers with a one-word result: Approved or Refused. If you know which office has your file and where its list lives, you can check your own result in under a minute.

This guide explains which office decides your application, how often each one publishes, how to search the list, what to do if your number is missing, and what happens after an approval or a refusal. It covers every applicant, with extra detail for Pakistan, because Pakistani applications are decided in Dublin rather than at an embassy.

Quick answer

Find your eight-digit visa application (transaction) number on your AVATS summary form. Work out which visa office has your file, open that office’s decision list and search for your number. Dublin publishes every Tuesday on irishimmigration.ie, Abu Dhabi every Friday, New Delhi every morning, and Ankara and Abuja weekly on ireland.ie. Applications from Pakistan are decided in Dublin.

Step One: Find Out Which Office Decides Your Application

This is where most people go wrong. They search the Dublin list when their file sits in New Delhi, or the reverse, and assume they have not been decided. ISD runs a Dublin visa office plus seven overseas offices, and each overseas office covers a fixed list of countries.

Which Irish visa office decides your application: Dublin for Pakistan, New Delhi for India Bangladesh Nepal Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi for UAE and Qatar, Ankara for Saudi Arabia residents, Abuja for Nigeria and Ghana
Each office covers a fixed list of countries. Where you apply from decides which list to check.

Two details catch people out:

  • It depends on where you apply, not your passport. ISD requires you to apply from your home country or the country where you legally live. A Pakistani working in Dubai applies through the UAE and is decided in Abu Dhabi. A Pakistani applying from Lahore is decided in Dublin.
  • Some categories always go to Dublin. The New Delhi embassy, for example, transfers EU Free Movement family applications and several preclearance categories (such as de facto partners, Minister of Religion and Volunteer) to Dublin, whatever country you apply from.

Your AVATS Application Summary Form tells you where to send your documents. If it sends you to Dublin, or to a visa centre that forwards to Dublin, check the Dublin list.

How to Check Your Ireland Visa Decision: Step by Step

Four steps to check an Ireland visa decision: get your 8-digit AVATS number, open the right decision list, search for it, read Approved or Refused
Checking takes under a minute once you know which list to open.
  1. Get your application number. It is the eight-digit visa application (transaction) number on your AVATS summary form, also shown in your AVATS confirmation email.
  2. Open the right list. Dublin: the Visa Decisions page on irishimmigration.ie. Overseas offices: the “visa decisions” or “weekly decision reports” page of the embassy on ireland.ie.
  3. Search for your number. On the Dublin page, type it into the search box above the table. For embassy reports, open the latest file and press Ctrl + F (Cmd + F on a Mac) to find your number.
  4. Read the result. Each line shows only your number and “Approved” or “Refused”. If your number is not there, read the section on missing numbers below.

Check the most recent report first, then the previous one. Embassy reports cover a date range, and your decision appears in the report for the week it was made.

Dublin Visa Office: Decisions and Processing Dates

Dublin is the office Pakistani applicants need. ISD updates two things on its Visa Decisions page every Tuesday:

  • Processing dates: for each visa type, the date of receipt of applications and appeals currently being decided.
  • Recent decisions: a searchable table of application numbers with Approved or Refused. On 27 October 2026 it held 4,324 entries.

On 27 October 2026, Dublin was deciding applications and appeals received up to these dates:

Dublin processing dates published on 27 October 2026. They update every Tuesday.

How to use these dates: compare the date your application arrived in Dublin with the date for your visa type. If yours arrived after that date, it is still in the queue. ISD warns that files take days, sometimes weeks, to reach Dublin after you send them, and that dates for some categories may not move every week.

The table shows a clear pattern. Business and employment visas are moving roughly two months behind, study about four months, while visit visas and family reunification are far slower. If you are a Pakistani worker hoping a relative can visit soon after you arrive, plan around that gap.

Overseas Visa Offices: Where Each One Publishes

New Delhi (India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka)

New Delhi publishes a single file of all decisions made so far in the year, updated each morning by about 11:00 India time. Its published processing times (updated 17 September 2026) are 4 to 6 weeks for Category A employment visas, 8 to 10 weeks for Category B, 4 to 8 weeks for study, 6 to 8 weeks for visits and 6 to 12 months for join family, counted in working days from receipt at the embassy. Employment and study appeals take about 6 months there.

Abu Dhabi (UAE, Qatar and other Gulf and North African countries)

Abu Dhabi posts a report every Friday afternoon covering that week’s decisions. Its target times are 4 to 8 weeks for employment and study, 6 to 8 weeks for visits, about 4 weeks for business and up to 12 months for join family. Since 1 July 2024, visa-required residents of Qatar are decided in Abu Dhabi.

Ankara (Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia residents)

Ankara posts a weekly report of the previous week’s decisions. Its target is 6 to 8 weeks for employment, study and visit visas, up to 6 months for long-stay appeals such as employment, and 12 months or more for join family.

Abuja (Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal)

Abuja posts weekly decision reports on its embassy page and advises applying about twelve weeks before travel.

Beijing, London and Moscow

These offices publish processing times and decisions on their own ireland.ie embassy pages. ISD’s Visa Decisions page links to each of them.

Your Number Is Not on the List: What It Usually Means

A missing number is normal, and it rarely means something is wrong. In order of likelihood:

  1. You have not been decided yet. Processing clocks start when your file reaches the visa office, not when you lodge it. New Delhi, for example, says files lodged outside Delhi take two working days to arrive, and Abu Dhabi says transit can take 2 to more than 10 days.
  2. You are checking the wrong office. Re-read the coverage table above and your summary form.
  3. Your file needs extra checks. The embassies list biometric clearance, in-depth document verification and phone interviews as common reasons for delay. New Delhi says it may phone applicants or sponsors to resolve inconsistencies, so answer calls from Irish numbers during this period.
  4. You are looking at an older report. Embassy reports cover one week each; open the newest one.

Most offices say they will not answer routine status requests and that the published list is the update. For Dublin applications, ISD provides a Customer Service Portal for status queries, and the Ankara page points applicants outside its region to the same portal.

Approved: What Happens Next

If you see “Approved”, the visa itself still has to be placed in your passport. ISD says it will contact you about issuing your visa. If you applied through an embassy or honorary consulate, contact that office if you have not heard; if you applied to Dublin, contact the Dublin visa office. Embassies typically return passports through the visa application centre or courier.

Two reminders before you fly:

  • Check the visa sticker carefully: your name, passport number, dates and the number of entries.
  • A visa lets you travel; it does not guarantee entry. Carry copies of your application documents for the immigration officer at the airport.

Refused: Appeal or Reapply?

A refusal comes with a letter (or email) giving the reasons. What you can do next depends on the visa type:

  • Long-stay visas (employment, study, join family): you can usually appeal free of charge. The appeal must arrive within 2 months of the date on the refusal letter, and only one appeal is allowed per application.
  • Short-stay visas (visits, tourism, business): since 1 June 2026, refusals can no longer be appealed, except for certain EU Free Movement family categories. You would need to submit a new application.
  • False documents: if the refusal finds false or misleading information, you may have no right of appeal and could be barred from Irish visas for up to five years.

Appeals are slow. On 27 October 2026, Dublin was deciding employment visa appeals received by 29 January 2026, and both New Delhi and Ankara quote around 6 months for long-stay appeals. A complete first application is far quicker than winning on appeal.

What to do after an Ireland visa decision: approved means the visa is issued and passport returned; refused long-stay visas can be appealed within 2 months, short-stay refusals cannot be appealed since 1 June 2026
Your next step depends on the result and the visa type.

Can You Speed Up an Irish Visa Decision?

Generally, no. ISD processes applications in the order received and says it does not expedite them. It treats job start dates, course dates and events as normal for each category, so they are not grounds for priority. Priority is reserved for rare emergencies, such as a family member in Ireland being hospitalised or a bereavement, and ISD will ask for evidence. Anyone offering to “push” your decision for a fee cannot do so.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check my Ireland visa decision?

Search your eight-digit visa application number on the decision list of the office handling your file: the Visa Decisions page on irishimmigration.ie for Dublin, or the embassy’s visa decisions page on ireland.ie for overseas offices.

Where is my Ireland visa decision if I applied from Pakistan?

Applications from Pakistan are decided by the Dublin visa office, because Pakistan is not covered by any of ISD’s overseas visa offices. Check the Dublin list on irishimmigration.ie, which is updated every Tuesday.

What day are Ireland visa decisions published?

Dublin publishes every Tuesday, Abu Dhabi every Friday afternoon, and New Delhi every morning by about 11:00 India time. Ankara and Abuja publish weekly reports.

What number do I search for?

Your visa application (transaction) number from AVATS, the eight-digit number on your Application Summary Form.

Why is my visa number not on the decision list?

Usually because your application has not been decided yet, often because the clock starts only when the file reaches the visa office. You may also be checking the wrong office or an older report, or your file may need extra verification.

How long does an Ireland visa decision take?

ISD’s general guide is about 8 weeks from receipt. Embassy targets vary: for employment visas, 4 to 6 weeks (Category A) in New Delhi, 4 to 8 weeks in Abu Dhabi and 6 to 8 weeks in Ankara. Visit and family visas often take much longer in Dublin.

Can I appeal a refused Ireland visit visa?

Not since 1 June 2026, except for certain EU Free Movement family categories. You would need to make a new application. Long-stay visas such as employment and study can still be appealed within 2 months.

My visa is approved. When will I get my passport back?

ISD or the embassy will contact you about issuing the visa. Embassies return passports through the visa centre or courier; Dublin returns documents by registered post only to addresses in Ireland or the UK, so applicants elsewhere arrange collection as instructed.
